Frequently (and not-so-frequently)Asked Questions
Why are you raising money for adoption?
The international adoption process is a long process, requiring a large amount of paperwork and involving many professionals along the way. Typical costs to complete an adoption range from $25,000 to $50,000 (US) depending on the country being adopted from. This money covers costs to prepare the paperwork, monitor progress, obtain, notarize, authenticate and translate various documents, evaluation by a social worker, travel to the country of adoption, donation to the orphanage, etc.
How much of my purchase goes to supporting adoption?
100% of the proceeds are used to cover expenses actually incurred by families in an active international adoption process. The overhead of running and maintaining this web site have been donated to ensure maximum impact from the purchase of products on this site.
How do you know the money is used for legitimate purposes?
There are many professionals involved in the adoption process who ensure the process remains legitimate and above board. The process is tightly governed by the US and state governments who require working with a licensed adoption agency. Further, most countries from which children may be adopted are participants in the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption. This convention sets in place procedures and best practices to ensure the welfare of the children and prevention of abduction, exploitation, sale or trafficking in children. There is direct evidence that orphanage donations in China, for example, have had a dramatic effect on improving the health and care of those under the care of these institutes.
